Diamonds
Mohs Hardness: 10
Cleaning: Safe for ultrasonic and steam cleaning unless fracture filled or laser drilled
Extra Care: Extremely durable but can still chip if struck at the right angle
Ruby & Sapphire
Mohs Hardness: 9
Cleaning: Safe for ultrasonic and steam cleaning unless fractured or treated
Extra Care: Durable but avoid extreme heat and sudden temperature changes
Emeralds
Mohs Hardness: 7.5 - 8
Cleaning: Clean only with a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water; avoid ultrasonic and steam.
Extra Care: Softer and often treated with oils so they can scratch or chip more easily
Amethyst, Citrine, Topaz
Mohs Hardness: 7 - 8
Cleaning: Clean with warm soapy water; avoid ultrasonic and steam.
Extra Care: Moderately durable, enough for regular wear, but can fade with prolonged sunlight and heat exposure.
Opals
Mohs Hardness: 5.5 – 6.5
Cleaning: Wipe gently with a damp cloth — never soak or use chemical and ultrasonic cleaners.
Extra Care: Very delicate and porous. Avoid heat, direct sunlight, and sudden temperature changes.
Pearls
Mohs Hardness: 2.5 - 4.5
Cleaning: Wipe after wear with a damp cloth and store in a breathable pouch, never use ultrasonic cleaners, steamers, or abrasive cloths
Extra Care: Soft and organic; sensitive to acid, dryness, and abrasion. Avoid perfumes, hairsprays, and makeup contact.
